Water Rafting

rugged terrain combined with the drainage network and

Volcano Tour

Arenal
Lay dormant until July 29 in 1968, when an earthquake
shook the area, and 12 hours later Arenal blew. If you
have never seen an active volcano, Arenal makes for a
spectacular first. This 1633 m volcano rises majestically
out of the lush pastures and forest on the eastern end
of Lake Arenal. Intermittent explosions draw people by
day and night, although nights is the best time to observe
red-hot molten lava enveloping the top of the cone.

Bird
Watching
|
The
bird life of Costa Rica is so rich and varied. Approximately
850 recorded bird species and one-tenth of the world's
total. More than 630 are resident species; the remainder
are occasional's who fly in for the winter. Birds that
have all but disappeared in other areas still find tenuous
safety in protected lands in Costa Rica. The nation offers
hope for such rare jewels of the bird world as the quetzal
and the scarlet macaw, both endangered species yet commonly
seen in protected reserves. Seeing them is relatively
easy. With season, location, and luck, you can expect
to see many dozens of species on any one day.
